The journey of Aesthete ALBA starts in the hemp fields in Shanxi, China.
Hemp is a resistant crop and can be grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers and thus our hemp is grown in this ecological manner. The hemp is then partially retted and dried. The resulting Hemp straw is then mechanically peeled and goes through a highly engineered purification plant that ensures that the environment will not be impacted in the process of degumming the hemp stalks. Then, the fibres are carded and separated and spun and last, woven with silk threads made in traditional manner. Our suppliers textiles are exclusively coloured with reactive dyes, in accordance with the demands of GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). Dyeing and finishing is fashioned after the GOTS guidelines by a GOTS certified unit.

Our textile supplier is a member of the Fair Wear Foundation. This means that the entire value chain is audited and approved by a third party audit, ensuring that all labour conditions are living up to healthy industry standards. All partners of our supplier is also certified by certified by IMO, a Swiss Institute, in accordance with GOTS.

Our fabric is then shipped to our supplier in Germany and then to Latvia in recycled packaging materials, where our manufacturer is ready to create wonders.

Our manufacturer is based in Liepaja, Latvia. The small company is owned by Tatiana, who used to own a lamp shop, but in the same building, created a new business over 15 years ago when she was forced out of business by larger companies in the same area. The sewing room is therefor filled with ornamental chandeliers and lamps. The decoration is otherwise modest, and the exterior is not flashy and needs a name sign – why we where a little sceptic when we arrived. The working conditions are good and the atmosphere is easy. The employees teas each other in a peculiar Latvian good hearted fashion.

If your Aesthete is an ALBA DECO then beautiful lace made from organic cotton (GOTS) is sewn into the garment. The end lace product is not GOTS certified because it has gone through a process post delivery at our supplier. Even though the manufacturer uses non-toxic production techniques, ensuring that no chemicals are used in the process, they are a small family run company without the financial means to get a certification body to verify the clean process.
